Biblical

"These things are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God."
- St. John 20:31

The Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the source of our faith and life.

The Only True and Living God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit has given us His Word. The Bible is the pure, clear fountain of truth for our congregation and the whole world. God uses His Word to call us together and gives us new life to live in faith toward Him and fervent love toward one another.

We are committed to receiving all that our Lord Jesus Christ has taught us in His Word and to living by faith alone in Him and His promises.

Confessional

"I will also speak of your testimonies before kings and shall not be put to shame."
- Psalm 119:46

Having received the Word of God, we gladly confess it in our congregation and our community. We subscribe to the Book of Concord(link to bookofconcord.org), the Confessions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, teaching the same doctrine God has given to us in His Word. We are dedicated to the task of making new disciples through teaching and Holy Baptism both in our community and around the world so that all might confess that Jesus is Lord to the glory of God the Father.

Liturgical

"Do this as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me"
- 1 Corinthians 11:25

New City is a congregation formed by the Triune God in Baptism and the preaching of the Word. We gather around Scripture and the Body and Blood of Christ, singing and praying the sure Words given to us by God. Through the Church, Jesus Christ seeks to draw all people to Himself, forgiving their sins by his death on the cross and sanctifying them for a life of love for God and service to their neighbors. The way we pray and what we pray in the Services of God's House are drawn from the Word of God and centered in the forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ. We use the finest music the Church has given to us in both liturgy and hymns.

Lutheran

"Remember your congregation, which you have purchased of old, which you have redeemed to be the tribe of your heritage!"
- Psalm 74:2

New City Church Orlando was planted in 2010. God has led us into the rich history of the Lutheran faith where the Gospel is purely proclaimed and the sacraments are rightly administered. Today we are dedicated to Lutheran doctrine drawn from the Scriptures and to teaching and confessing it in our life together as God's people.

What to Expect

picture of the sanctuary

“How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.”
- Genesis 28:17

Wherever the Gospel is proclaimed in word and sacrament, Christ is present and heaven and earth meet. In light of this reality, New City uses the Historic Lutheran Liturgy. The Lutheran Liturgy has developed to make visible the invisible realities.

In other words, we say that Christ is with us, so let's act like He's with us!

If you have never experienced the Lutheran Liturgy, expect a lot of singing. Whenever the Bible reveals to us the heavenly throne room, there is always singing.

The songs we sing then are mostly taken directly from Scripture, so that we may join the singing of the angels. The songs may seem awkward and difficult to sing at first, but do not worry. We repeat many of the songs every week, so that they may become ingrained in you. We do not expect you to be able to jump right in with us if you are not familiar with the liturgy, but we encourage you to pay close attention to the words and accompanying actions of the service and ask, “What are they confessing through these words and actions?” Then bring your questions to the pastors. They would love to explain the rich meaning behind every part of the service.

The Sacraments

“Take, eat; this is my body…Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”
- Matthew 26:26-28

We confess the plain words of Christ, that the bread that we break is the true body of Jesus, and the cup that we bless is the true blood of Jesus. We do not attempt to understand this through our reason but comprehend this great mystery through faith. We confess with the historic church that the Lord's Supper, when received in faith, grants forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation. We also confess that the Lord's Supper, when received apart from faith, brings judgment. “Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord (1 Cor. 11:27).” And “For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself (1 Cor. 11:29).” In order to practice salutary pastoral care, we ask any visitors to refrain from joining us in Holy Communion before scheduling a meeting with the pastors. You may still come up to the altar, cross your arms, and receive a blessing from one of the pastors.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” - Matthew 28:19

We confess that Holy Baptism is the entry point into Christ and His Church. “For in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ (Gal. 3:26-27).” We believe in accordance with the Lutheran confessions that baptism, “brings about forgiveness of sins, redeems from death and the devil, and gives eternal salvation to all who believe it, as the words and promise of God declare (Luther's Small Catechism).” This is in line with the clear Scripture of Mark 16:6, “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be damned,” and 1 Peter 3:21, “Baptism ... now saves you.”

If you desire baptism for yourself or your children, please schedule a meeting with the pastors.

Why Give

As Christ followers, we believe that we are stewards of God's resources because He is the owner of all that we have. Throughout Scripture, we are reminded of the importance of giving back a portion of what God has so generously provided. His Word tells us that giving is an act of worship that should be done with a spirit of thanksgiving.

Where Does the Money Go?

We can accomplish more together than we can alone. And, it's amazing how God provides. Our goal is to have a majority of our budget going toward community outreaches. We want to grow a generous spirit at New City, and we want to use our resources to encourage and impact the community around us.

New City Church Orlando is recognized as an organization exempt from federal income tax under section 501 (c)(3). Our exempt status is current and has not been revoked or modified.
